The University of Alabama

Printing and Mail Facility

Tuscaloosa, Alabama

As part of The University of Alabama’s plan to revitalize the historic Bryce Hospital Campus through renovations and new construction, the Printing and Mail Facility is a total renovation to the first and second floors of the former hospital’s North Twin Building. The nearly 45,000 square-foot building houses the University’s main Post Office as well as its Department of Printing Services. The exterior envelope renovation includes a new roof truss assembly, roofing, and windows together with substantial restoration of the building’s exterior masonry.

The interior work consists of demolishing all interior finishes and partitions then rebuilding those interiors, installing new mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems as well as new elevator systems. Also, in order to increase the floor loading capacity of the existing concrete frame to accommodate the printing facilities’ equipment, we designed and installed a shoring system that nearly doubles the load capacity of the first floor.
