The University of Alabama

As part of The University of Alabama’s efforts to revitalize the historic Bryce Hospital Campus, the former hospital’s North Twin Building underwent extensive renovations to accommodate the University’s main Post Office and Department of Printing Services. The project included a complete renovation of the first and second floors of the nearly 45,000-square-foot building. Exterior improvements included a new roof truss system, roofing, windows, and extensive restoration of the building’s historic masonry.

Interior renovations included the removal and replacement of existing partitions and finishes, along with the installation of new mechanical, electrical, life safety, and elevator systems. To accommodate the weight of the printing equipment, Amason also designed and installed a structural shoring system that nearly doubled the first floor’s load-bearing capacity.
