The Mercedes-Benz U.S. International Hydrogen Fuel Cell Project Receives a 2012 AGC Build Alabama Award

In this project, we retrofitted existing equipment with hydrogen fuel cells in conjunction with ongoing plant operations.  We served as construction manager and completed the job in only five weeks.  In addition to retrofitting nearly 75 pieces of equipment, the project required constructing the infrastructure, both within the assembly shop and at the exterior location of the hydrogen storage tank, to support and operate the hydrogen system.  The scope of work included constructing a hydrogen tank farm, erecting fencing and guardrails, as well as the installation of compressors and compressed storage tubes.  Extensive concrete work, piping, and wiring were also necessary to transport hydrogen to two fueling stations in the assembly shop.
